ニューヨークの郊外にその喫茶店はあった。
店の名前と
“水曜 定休日”
とだけ書かれたぶっきらぼうな看板の奥にひっそりと佇む。
店のマスターは無口で頑固。
その店のジュークボックスには
マスターが好きな、イギリス出身で世界的に大ブレークした、
今はもう解散してしまったグループの曲しかない。
ある年のちょうど今くらいの季節。
その日は昼下がりに突然大雨が降り出した。
通りには濡れながら急ぎ足で行き交う人々。
その中の１人が店に入ってきた。
全身が濡れそぼり寒さでガタガタ震えるその男は、
マスターが好きなバンドのメンバーの１人だった。
おそらくその事に気付いたのであろう。
